Reading Log#1
Topic Choice 1- The main characters are Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore, Voldemort, Uncle Vermon, Dudley, and Aunt Petunia. Harry Potter is the main character, he's a wizard which his parents died and was sent to his uncle and aunt. His uncle, Dudley, and aunt really don't like Harry because they looked at him as a total weirdo. Harry's parents died from an evil antagonist named Volemort. He was once stopped by a powerful wizard named Albus Dumbledore. People thought that Voldemort was dead until they were notified that Voldemort killed Harry's parents and leaving Harry with a scar looking like a lightning bolt. So far everyone is static (stayed the same).
On one part of the book it states,"Harry still wonders where he has gotten his scar on his forehead." As he asked his Aunt Petunia many questions Aunt Petunia says," From now on there will not be any more questions..." which means that Harry asked a lot of questions which got her mad. It also means that he knows some information about him, his parents, and why he was brought to Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon.
Reading Log#2
Topic Choice #2- A wizard named Hagrid knocked down the door of Harry's home in a boat. Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia were shocked so Uncle Vernon put out his rifle. It all started when Uncle Vernon received a letter from Hagrid which was meant for Harry, since Uncle Vernon reeived a lot of letters from Hagrid he decided that they should move to other places but Hagrid was still able to send letters to them. Harry on the other hand feels suspicious and tries to get his hands on one of the letters. This conflict for Uncle Vernon is external since he is trying to avoid Hagrid and might even shoot him. In the text it says,"A tall, harry man was behind the door after he knocked it down." Hagrid later in the story says,"You're a wizard Harry." Which made Harry confused and also resolved the conflict.
Reading Log #3
An important scene of this book is when Hagrid unexpectantly tells Harry that he was a wizard. He told him after he had knocked down the door in a boat where they were living. This scene is important because it changes the entire story and life of Harry since he would go on magical adventures facing malicious, powerful creatures instead of living his life as a person who isn't treated like a person but as a pet. It also causes conflict since it later means that he'll have to battle different creatures. All Harry could do right now is learn what would've known earlier in his life. The situation is external
since most of the conflict involves a person or living thing. This conflict is situational since it can be solved by a violent battle. One quote from the story says,"Harry-yer a wizard" which shows Hagrid telling Harry an important secret Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon were hiding from him. Another is,"About our world, I mean. Your world My world. Yer parents' world."This leaves Harry with curiosity about knowing what Hagrid was talking about.
Reading Log #4
Ethics is shown from the conflict including knowing that Harry will be having a risky, dangerous adventure.
Reading Log #5
As time passed by, Harry Potter was interested in joining quidditch. It turned out that Harry was great at it."Harry Potter then hopped on the broom to get it.""Harry was relieved that he didn't get in trouble but didn't know what quidditch was."
Reading Log #6
An important scene shown is the part where Harry Potter learns about Quidditch. It happens at Hogwarts Wizardry months after Harry was introduced to the world of wizards and witches. This scene shows the curiosity and the confusion shown from Harry Potter. The character, Harry Potter, becomes interested and got the opportunity to join the Quidditch team after Harry's risky decision to get Ron's Remembrall which has been taken from Malfoy after Madam Hooch forbidded anyone to ride a broom. This scene is part of rising action as Harry Potter is still new to this new world but is past the background of the story. In page 148 it says,"'No!' shouted Hermione Granger. 'Madam Hooch told us not to move - you'll get us all into trouble." This quote shows the part where Hermione warns Harry about the consequences if he gets caught. On page 149 it later says,"He leaned forward and pointed his broom handle down - next second he was gathering speed in a steep dive, racing the ball - wind whistled in his ears, mingled with the screams of people watching - he stretched out his hand - a foot from the ground he caught it, just in time to pull his broom straight, and he toppled gently onto the grass with the Remembrall clutched safely in his fist."
